Chrysler closed down! Any information?

All I have is a 1 minute report. What do you know?
SULLY:

Hi CL. Merry Christmas and thank you for the link.

Literally Speaking ™:

Just saw on the news they are closing all 30 plants in the U.S. for one month.

SULLY:

That's cruel!

Literally Speaking ™:

Who ever said corporate America was sympathetic?

SULLY:

True! :(

Nikkinmiss:

What I've heard so far is that they're shutting down production for 1month. Stating weakening sales & the credit crisis for the reason.

SULLY:

It's blackmail! :-)

Nikkinmiss:

Maybe they're trying to show everyone the effect it could have on the economy.

PinkPoodle:

They're probably hoping the new White House will be more sympathetic when they resume in January.

SULLY:

Blackmail!

MamaV:

The company needs to match production to slowing demand and conserve cash.

This is not the first time this company has done this Sally. My grandfather started in the Chrysler Plant in New Castle, Ind. when it first opened its door, in the early 1900's. During the depression, they had to do this several times. Yes it is hard on the blue collar worker's, but it beats laying them all off all together. I have said all along that any and every business runs on supply and demand. If no one is buying, there is no sense in keep making the autos. Many times Chrysler did this during the Christmas holidays. It is sort of a close down and regroup. End the Bad year, and then start all over. My grandfather worked for Chrysler since they opened their doors, worked his way up the ranks, stating at the bottom, retired with a good pension. When my grandfather passed in the late 1970's we all got part of what was left of his Chrysler stock. I was not worth the paper is was printed on. We keep it for sentimental reasons. Lee Iacocca, stepped in and turned the company around. Within a few short years, our stock didn't just triple, it quadrupled.
I know that it is hard on the families, but they will tough it out. They have their unions to help, and trust me they do, (or at least they did in the past) They will make sure that they are all taken care of for the Holiday's. Give them grocery gift cards and such, and help with things like utilities and rents. Most of them know all ready it was coming. Those who have been around any length of time, know how to make it through it.
It is sad, but it also goes through a cleaning out process. Some workers move on, and get other jobs, better jobs sometimes. and never return. So it takes the strain off the companies over flow of employees. It is the business they are in, and they are f

SULLY:

Thank you. That is a lot of information I did not know. My greatest concern is that it will not end at a month. Everything is so unsettled they may just decide to fold.
Do you think this is a possibility?

Literally Speaking ™:

No way will they fold, this is just a way to try to balance a few books, you have to look at it like this, why build something to sell if you already have a store full unsold. They just stop production for a while to let supply catch up to demand.

SULLY:

Who will be buying Chryslers in the next month?

________________________:

It's a ploy on their part to get sympathy so everyone will be for the government bailouts for auto industry, I think.

SULLY:

I hope so!

Texas Girl:

And so all of you realize that with unemployment and sub pay, they will make 95% of wages? I sure hope the economy is helped by this.

SULLY:

:(

Pegalomania The Artsqueen:

The auto companies all close for two weeks during the holidays. I think they are going to be closed for 30 days this year to save money.

SULLY:

All of them?

Literally Speaking ™:

They said GM and Ford were both closing plants as well but not on such a grand scale as Chrysler for a few weeks.
