Allen Greenspan stated the country can't afford McCain's tax plan. Should voters still vote for him?

Under the haze of the Sarah Palin entrance on the election scene, remains THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE of the election, the ECONOMY. McCain has already admitted that he doesn't understand the economy and now his mentor has decried his economic policy. Given these facts, why should voters still support him?http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5iE2JCSH5p9r2GBkQWS9TWAMzmuvQD9362OS01
.......:

And part two... "without cuts" A BIG factor, one I can support.

Gladys:

The link was added so that everyone could read the full context of Greenspan's statement. "Part Two" spelled out what Greenspan thought would have to happen in order to actually implement McBush's economic plan. McBush has stated that he will cut "wasteful" government spending, but what are the specifics and will those cuts be at the expense of the middle class citizens who are already financially constrained?

Christine:

He is correct, most Americans can't afford McCains tax plan and with all the lies he and Palin are spreading they aren't hearing the facts; its really scary. Palin is not ready to be VP let alone President. McCains poor VP decision among many put us at great risk around the world. MCCAIN/PALIN IS THE REAL RISK IN THIS ELECTION.

Water angel:

YES!!!!!!!!!!
LISTENING TO GREENSPAN IS LIKE LISTENING TO & BELEIVING OBAMA.
TAKE A LOOK YOURSELF AT THE TIMES GREENSPAN HAS STATED INFOIRMATION TO AMERICAN PUBLIC, CONCERNING OUR ECONOMY THAT WAS SIMPLY UNTRUE!
THE FEDERAL RESERVE CONTROLS OUR ECONOMY- NOT THE PRESEIDENT AND GREENSPAN WORKS FOR, THE FEDERAL RESERVE!
YES I SAY VOTE FOR MCCAINS TAX PLAN, IT WILL WORK AND HE WILL WORK TO MAKE IT WORK!

Hrrep:

A vote for McCain is a vote for safety of American people. Obama is not strong or expericensed enough to stop terriorist from cleaning us off the map!

NetRocks!:

Your reference to Mr. Greenspan demands a response. You have likely viewed enough television of the flooding in New Orleans to understand what a levy is and the result of a breached levy. The Constitution for the united states may properly be viewed as a levy. The levy was designed to retain "government". Sadly, legalized exponentially expanding socialism has breached the levy. Any form of government that brings about loss of individual liberty and rights to property under the pretense of "the common good" will bring down the economy. Mr. Greenspan wrote in 1966,"..chronic deficit spending (the hallmark of any welfare state) is a mechanism by which governments confiscate the wealth of the productive members of a society to support welfare schemes." Our government and all employees (that includes senators) are part of the problem. Mr. Greenspan's article, "Gold and Economic Freedom" appeared in Ayn Rand's "Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal and the Objectivist newsletter.

MamaV:

Great Post GT. Sorry, though it will go right over some folks heads. I hope someone does use this information to dig a little deeper into what you are saying and learn something along the way. Sorry I posted now.

NetRocks!:

MamaV- Please never be sorry for a valid and informative post. MaggieD has told me I must make my post more understandable to everyone. I was attempting to draw a picture with the levy idea but I never taught in other than a lecture format so I am a beginner. Thank you for your comment.

Gladys:

Ghost Talker,
Thanks for your post. I have found the article that you referenced and will examine it closely. I appreciate your response in that it gave me new information. I will get back to you with my thoughts once I have read it.

MaggieD:

But you missed the most important part in the article: "Alan Greenspan says the country can't afford tax cuts of the magnitude proposed by Republican presidential contender John McCain — at least not without a corresponding reduction in government spending." McCain has said all along that his intent is to cut government spending -- exposing wasteful earmarks, boondoggles, and review the budget line-by-line looking for cuts. It's been a long time since a pollitician has spoken so dramatically about cutting spending. A long time.

.......:

I just love PART TWO, or the other shoe hitting the floor. Yet only the first part is seen by those that are blind to the big picture. In turn, they won't even consider HOW Obama is going to pay for all new new spending via entitlements and new programs pushing the nanny state to new levels of intrusion into our lives.

Lyinn:

As always your right on the money!

Svwhu:

So much for the infrastructure of this country getting repaired and so much for researching alternative energy sources and so much for health care. and what else is he going to cut to get the wealth their taxes breaks? He sure isn't going to stop the war and who knows how many more the war monger will start.
Do you really think he can deliver on those promises and still take care of the countries needs? I don't believe they will ever get rid of the waste. They can only argue about what programs to cut.
I am really surprised MaggieD, *I never took you for being for the big money.

Gladys:

"Part Two" spelled out what Greenspan thought would have to happen in order to actually implement McBush's economic plan. McBush has stated that he will cut "wasteful" government spending, but what are the specifics and will those cuts be at the expense of the middle class citizens who are already financially constrained?

BlueManta:

Why indeed should they not. He doesn't presume to think he knows what to do about the economy. That indeed is what the full resources of the U.S. government, including all the advisers that are the ones that make those advisements anyway. Greenspan is no longer in his old position for a reason. Did he know what to do with this economy? NO. If he does I am sure he would offer some advice and McCain and crew will listen and take action when and how it is possible. Has Obama anything besides hopes, promises, and hollow conjecture to offer as a real sollution to the current economic crisis. I prefer the honest man with the quality of truth and honor. Pres. McCain will have the best advisers than anyone else, when the time comes. Watch between Nov. 08 and Jan.09

MaggieD:

You make an excellent point. Greenspan's attitudes are much of the cause that our financial system is in the shape it's in today.

BlueManta:

It is not what a man believes, but his ability and willingness to approach the problem at the time and resolve it the best he can with the interests in the people of the U.S. this is McCain, and not Obama. The rest is just history, Bet? Come Nov. nothing is proven....til then....Only thing happening will be the demystification of Obama. Just get ready, everytime O. Opens his mouth, the shallower the water gets....His foot is up to the ankle already....he has nothing to regurgitate anymore. The lies will out themselves......Peace...until Nov. McCain

MaggieD:

I hope you're right.

.......:

While the water might be shallow at this time, there is quicksand ahead and closer examination of Obama's spending plans might reveal it -- if people examine his agenda carefully -- that will not happen. Blindly, full speed ahead.

Rick:

You kind of missed a whole bunch of info. there has to be spending cuts.

.......:

Yep. Selective quoting strikes again!

Gladys:

Definitely NOT "selective quoting." If that was my goal I would not have supplied a link to the full text of Greenspan's statement. See my comment to the question.

MamaV:

Instead of listening to what some else has to say about this, why not look deeper into the issue yourself and make a decision on your own about how YOU feel the best approach is. Please go to both John McCain's link and Barack Obama's link and read what each candidate has written on the issue and quit paying attention to the rumors and they hype of what others have to say about what McCain or Obama is or is not doing.
http://www.barackobama.com/issues/economy/
http://www.johnmccain.com/Issues/jobsforamerica/
Just a friendly suggestion, When YOU yourself look into and read the issues and what the candidates say on your own, you better prepare yourself to vote on what YOU think is important, not what someone else is saying. Peace. :)

Cookie:

Agree with what Maggie says. Read more than a headline before you post please.

EQuisitor:

Not if they are wise. The wise person will evaluate the situation and vote for Obama.

Tms_travis:

if people are wise they will wake up and vote for mccain

Tms_travis:

vote for mccain or you will be the first to stand in line at a soup kitchen. obama is a fraud//////////////////////

Brecksw:

Yes,please do evaluate and you will vote for McCain
