Do you think McCain has now opened the door back up on the Keating Five scandal?

Back in 1989, McCain, along with four other Senators, was accused of improperly aiding Charles Keating, chairman of the failed Lincoln Savings and Loan Association, in efforts to hamper regulators from intruding on the industry's risky investment practices. McCain, who had received over $100,000 in campaign contributions from Keating, was ultimately rebuked by the US senate for "poor judgment". One of the Senate's members ripped John McCain on Tuesday for offering a phony populist self-portrayal in the wake of the current crisis in the financial markets. In the process, Sherrod Brown of Ohio raised the Republican nominee's involvement in the Keating Five scandal as evidence that voters couldn't trust McCain's record on both the economy and ethics.

Hi Lou.....I like your new avatar.

Benny:

Thank you, I thought I would change it now Obama is now on the charge!

ThatGayConservative:

You do know that the attorney who investigated the matter exonerated McCain and recommended that congress do the same? This was the same attorney who defended Bill Clinton and yet described McCain as an honorable man.

But congress ignored his suggestion and spanked McCain over nothing anyway. A purely political move based on no evidence? You bet.

ThatGayConservative:

You do know that McCain was exonerated by the attorney investigating the matter a full year and a half before he was spanked by the Senate, don't you? This was the same guy, self proclaimed democrat, who defended Bill Clinton in the Monica kerfuffle. He has called McCain an "honorable man".

But I guess the truth doesn't matter to you.

ThatGayConservative:

Ooops!
So now my first comment shows up.

SUE:

Obama is too classy to bring up factual events, like John McSames involvement with the Keating 5 or how John McPain has an ongoing relationship with G.Gordon Liddy, a known homegrown terrorist. Does he ever bring up the fact that Davis, McSames campaign manager was on Fannie and Freddie's payroll until as recently as last month? Does he bring up the fact that McSame's staff is made up of mostly current and past lobbyist, something McPain says he is vehemently against? How about how McSame had affairs, like the one with his then current mistress Cindy, because his wife at the time had been disfigured in an automobile accident, where is the honor John? He left his wife for money and looks, but does Obama bring up this sad sacks short falls, no. Face it, John McSame is a very shallow person, devoid of honor. because he has no honor and is losing this race, he has to stoop to making up lies and other fables to create controversy, he simply cannot generate excitement himself, he needs Falin

Much more recently along financial lines is this:
"Obama's other offenses are less outrageous--but they're misleading all the same. In response to a new McCain ad that tries to saddle Obama with disgraced former Fannie Mae chief Franklin Raines by claiming that Raines has given Obama "advice on mortgage and housing policy," Obama spokesman Bill Burton unleashed a howitzer blast of outrage in Crystal City's general direction. "This is another flat-out lie from a dishonorable campaign that is increasingly incapable of telling the truth," he said. "Frank Raines has never advised Senator Obama about anything--ever." That might be true. But the problem is that it contradicts a July Washington Post profile of Raines (cited by McCain in the ad), which reported that Raines has "taken calls from Barack Obama's presidential campaign seeking his advice on mortgage and housing policy matters." As the New Republic's Jason Zengerle--another Obama supporter--concludes: "Seeing as how neither Raines nor the Obama campaign bothered to contradict that information when the article came out, and didn't do so until only after the McCain ad aired, you can't really blame the McCain campaign for trying to make hay of the situation. And you certainly can't accuse it of dishonorably telling a lie." http://www.blog.newsweek.com/blogs/stumper/archive/2008/09/19/obama-fights-fire-with-fire-predictably-enough-that-whole-postpartisan-thing-was-never-going-to-work-out-was-it.aspx

Redneck Rev:

I thope eventually Obama or someone will bring it out,. They were actually talking about it the other day on MSNBC and someone said that they don't think Obama will mention it.

Jims best angle:

Yes then more people than you and the hosts of MSNBC might hear about it

Redneck Rev:

Alot of people know about the Keating Five. I read as well (you should try it some time) so MSNBC is not only place where I heard about it this week. That was just the only place I mentioned.

Wpkcallaway:

Obama has ties with terrorists...Do you think that the voters can trust him????

Benny:

Joy Joy Joy! Why do you persist in first of probably believing that crap and secondly spreading it!

Benny:

Thirdly, I trust Obama allot more than a man that has changed positions on every issue he has held one on!

SULLY:

Joy, prove it! Quickly...............40+ days for me to change my vote.

Redneck Rev:

Joy has been drinking the Kool-Aid. Hope it taste good going down your throat. ;)

Jims best angle:

He has worked with William Ayers, Obama's own words
Domestic terrorist - admited terrorist that is
He worked with Toney Rezko low income housing felon just for goo measure

Redneck Rev:

Well there are eighteen million people (and I am sure come Nov 4 there will be more) in this country who don't seem to be bothered by Ayers, Rezko, or Wright so I guess you can keep bringing it up but nobody cares. Only the McCain Kool-Aid drinkers seem to be responding to it.

Benny:

AMEN and AMEN! THE PALIN BALLOON IS CRASHING AND BURNING LIKE A SEQUEL TO THE HINDENBURG, MCCAIN'S RECORD ON THE ECONOMY ABOUT DEREGULATING NOT REGULATING WALL STREET IS COMING OUT AND OBAMA IS ON THE ATTACK AND RISING IN THE POLES!

Benny:

McCain and his claim to want to change the "old boys club" in Washington by pointing out that he has been part of that club for more than two decades, and that McCain has a staff loaded with the very Washington lobbyists he likes to attack on the stump. This is great!

Takeru:

Poor...Poor...Joy........You got Nothing....lol...lol......Just desperate....lol

MamaV:

Both John Glenn and John McCain were cleared of any wrong doing. I was wondering if someone was going to bring this up. :)
After a lengthy investigation, the Senate Ethics Committee determined in 1991 that Alan Cranston, Dennis DeConcini, and Donald Riegle had substantially and improperly interfered with the FHLBB in its investigation of Lincoln Savings. Senators John Glenn and John McCain were cleared of having acted improperly but were criticized for having exercised "poor judgment".
All five of the senators involved served out their terms. Only Glenn and McCain ran for re-election, and they were both re-elected. This scandal is almost twenty years old. I would hope that something was learned from that one, but it seems the only thing learned was do not get caught. So know no one is to blame and yet the American public is going to get screewed.
McCain has been forthright and honest about his past failures. While he did publically state that economics is not strong point, He does have some idea what he would like to do. Right now, with the U.S. economic mess, I don't think anyone knows what is going to happen next, whether it be Obama or McCain. Republican or Democratic, All of U.S. Government is standing around scratching their behinds right now, and wondering what to do next.

(Is your avatar the body of Rosie the Riveter, and the head of Obama?)

Benny:

I thought I was photo shopping his face on you MammaV! HA HA HA! Just kidding of course!

MamaV:

Sorry to disagree with you about McCain being a "good ol boy" that is one thing I do worry about after he is elected, that is that he stepped on too many toes and hurt too many feelings because he was not a "good ol boy" And those he displeased for not going along with the status quo will not be willing to work with him . and on the avatar comment ha hahahahahah thanks I needed a laugh:) And sorry I did not mean any offense, but it looks funny, and when you stop and think about it, you have just a male Presidential nominee's head on the body of a women. To me that sends mix messages of what you are really probably trying to show your support for here. :)
