Do we still care about "honest and fair elections" in America? ..Has it always been this bad?

CalCarp:

..I was just watching Chef Martin Yan on TV, ..he showed how you first cut the cranberries, onion, mix in the brown sugar, some "acidifyer" (..Puzon?), ..carefully blend in mixer, ..warning to keep lid loose!, ..bake just so, ..baste, and then cut half, ..lay over a whole slab, etc. ..... and I saw how politics works!!!!!

Howlishtee:

ur trippin buddy

Bryan:

Yes, we are not going to let fox news win another one for the republicans!

CalCarp:

..so you think it is all worth it?? ..Who wrote that book: "Cry My Beloved Country"?

CalCarp:

Alan Paton. "Cry, The Beloved Country".

Looking4answers:

CalCarp, who wrote the book "How to Rig an Election"?

Porkenstein AKA Pork, Porky, Porkens:

How did this get best answer? It doesn't even make any sense.

CalCarp:

..nobody knows, John, ..but it might just prove the whole complaint!

Gray wolf:

If one man could pull off all of that he must be a freaking genius and master manipulator. I want him to be the leader of my country. Then when our leader meet with other world leaders the smartest man in the room well be our leader.

Gray wolf:

will be

CalCarp:

You want to be lead by a "master manipulator"? ..those people only "lead" you to the stockyard. Yeah, ..we're so poor aren't we? But the Dem's (they wrote it, they spent it!) just pulled out $700 billion to give to the New York bankers, ..and Hollywood just spent $500 million on Ironman, Star Wars, and Saw-5, ..and the new gPhone just came out to hot reviews, and Oprah has a line of 2,000 people at $50 a ticket for a day-convention where Susie Orman tells them all how to manage their money. (..Do you want to be led? ..Go ahead, ..Go on in, ..Ms. Pelosi will see you now.)

Whipsaw:

America is defined by the will of the majority but listens to the voice of the minority. You are that minority. You have been heard. The majority will now act against your voiced concerns. See, the system still works.

Headache:

@whipsaw....if the system is one that act against the concerns of the citizens, even if they are in the minority, than the system doesn't really work to well. I agree that the majority will rule............ but how we react to the minority, in part, defines us

Whipsaw:

I believe religion is destroying our nation, and should be abolished immediately. I am in the nutso minority with this idea. I have every right to speak, and perhaps be heard, but absolutely no expectation that my minority views can or should become policy. We don't need to give all minority opinions respect or even a listen. Some may be dismissed as false, dangerous or irrelevant out of hand. CalCarps concerns fit the bill in most American's opinions.

Looking4answers:

Abolish religion? Whipsaw, why shouldn't I be allowed to worship as I see fit?

Headache:

i don't know if it has always been this bad, the divide in our country that this election is exposing should be alarming to all of us............. back door politics have been apart of America, and has been around longer than America has and unfortunately, probably always will

CalCarp:

(..is that a "Starliner" diesel??) ..opposing views are fine, .."divides" are even fine, ..2 or 3 or 4 voices of separate opinions are ALSO fine, ..but then we have to choose, ..then we have to march together into the future. Did everybody's vote count? ..Do we even care for a true count? ..or do we weakly just let the dice be rolled and hope we live through the result. Are we no longer of the strength to stand up and make a decision? .."the vote" atrophies, ..withers, ..and is replaced by "And this week's contestant is,....Yes, come on down! ..Tell us your name!"

Headache:

calcarp...nicely said......
and it is a starliner diesel-electric, the one pictured operated in Seattle as the Spirit of Washington Dinner Train......one of my finest jobs ever!

Looking4answers:

If you think that this is the worst American elections have ever been you need a serious refresher course in American history.

Wolfhound:

JOe the plummer is going to run for the house in 2010

Looking4answers:

God willing, he will loose in a landslide.

Smokin' Joe:

It's never been this bad. The Obama candidacy has brought out the worst in everybody.

Gray wolf:

Obama is to blame for everything and everybody.

Harold:

just the republican party or as they now call themselves
 mavericks
.

Nogard:

I do believe it is the McCain/Palin couple who bring out the worse---just watch some of their rallies where they spew lies and intolerance while their backers scream out horrible comments about Obama, and neither McCain nor Palin reprimand them. Yet, at Obama rallies, if a supporter simply "boos" McCain, Obama has the dignity and fairness to correct them.
Peace:)

Smokin' Joe:

graywolf, you really think so?

Gray wolf:

I bet you would blame these racist on Obama also.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRqcfqiXCX0&feature=related

Smokin' Joe:

Obama:

ACORN voter fraud
Truth squads
Obama youth videos (bringing children into it)
Playing the race card ("They're gonna say I don't look like the others")
Claiming McCain abuses women

Smokin' Joe:

graywolf, most of those comments were legitimate but the ones that were bigoted weren't one tenth as bad as Rev. Wright's comments about white people and America in general. And the name of the sponsor of that video should tell you something as well. Aljazeera.

Looking4answers:

Smokin Joe, Obama had nothing to do with any of those things you listed. Nice try buddy.

Smokin' Joe:

"Obama had nothing to do with any of those things you listed. "

"They're gonna say I don't look like the others". Isn't that an Obama quote???

Aside from that, I didn't say Obama had anything to do with the other ones and I didn't say his campaign did. I said his candidacy has brought out the worst in everybody. Do you not see the difference, buddy?

Looking4answers:

Fair enough. My mistake.

Karen:

and all the commercials, "don't vote for this clown, they sided with Bush"

Alwaysintrouble:

Anyone think 40 plus years ago counter intelligence of another country could have created an OBAMA. Cant seem to find the history of his family in the United States anywhere I look.

Looking4answers:

You must not have looked very hard. His history is well known. It's one of the things that makes him such an inspirational figure actually.

Hurricanegeek100:

It blows my mind that we are still having problems with the voting system. And as I am sure the republicans have concerns, as a an Obama supporter I am extremely concerned that there is going to be alot of dishnonest tatics to stop people from voting. I am glad to see that the Obama camp has already got thier lawyers in place in case something happens.

Alwaysintrouble:

Of course they do

Glenda:

correction please, both Rep. & Dems have over 30thousand lawyers in place to prevent this happening,

CalCarp:

It has ALREADY happened, haven't you seen the polls? Obama's votes are cast!

James:

Dear CalCarp,
As usual, you put forth any number of distortions. Governor Palin is not in trouble for removing her former brother-in-law from his job. From what I understand, he is still an Alaska State Trooper. He was disciplined by the State who heard all the charges against him and discounted many of them. (New York Times in early September) Governor Palin is in trouble for firing someone who refused to remove the Trooper after he was disciplined. Her husband made calls to 16 different state employees trying to pressure them. That is why she is accused of abusing her power. State employee personnel matters should be confidential, the governor's spouse has no legal right to interfer in state business. Senator Obama had nothing to do with the charges against Governor Palin, they were brought before her nomination and the report was written with the approval of 10 Republicans and 4 Democrats. Where is the proof of your allegations of missing church funds? Or is this more Conservative fantasy?

CalCarp:

You might start a search here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_Annenberg_Challenge but you'd better hurry, the lawyers are there too, and the info is wiggling faster than a fish in your hand! Note that at the moment it says: "By December 31, 1999, the Chicago Annenberg Challenge had identified and certified $110,643,651 in matching funds", ..soon followed by: "Among the schools it supported, the Challenge had little impact on school improvement and student outcomes". (..There is more, but this is a start: ..$110 million, if spent on school, would have made a difference.)

James:

Dear CalCarp,
You make it sound as if Senator Obama stole the money to fund his campaign. As your link says, the money spent didn't make any changes, it was money down the drain. The same can be said about No Child Left Behind or the Strategic Defense Initiative. Once again, you make allegations but don't have proof.

Looking4answers:

CalCarp, if you want anybody to take you seriously you're going to have to do better than just providing a link to wikipedia.

CalCarp:

..the receipts for the CAC's expenditures were withheld from inspection. Sen. Obama did not make a public request for them to be opened. Weeks (months?) passed by with the records unavailable. Now, reportedly, someone has been granted a viewing of some. Have you seen where the $110 million was spent? (..a WSJ entry put the figure at $160 million) Perhaps when Mrs. Palin gets off the Democrat District Attorney's "hot seat", ..Sen. Obama will sit for a few questions. The involved school charity contributor has reportedly requested an accounting as well. You may argue all you want, ..but where are those receipts? ..Why are they not published?

Lyinn:

Could not have said it better myself. What a sad time we are living in, sadder still is the number of people who believe the propaganda, a first rate example of the dumbing down of America. That is why, we must take every opportunity between now and election day to spread the truth about this pernicious fraud. We have seen it, know it and it is all bad.

CalCarp:

My hope would be that the "truth" actually IS the point. My fear is that it is NOT. Do we in fact care about America? Look to the left: Does Barack care about America? John McCain is right, America IS strong, ..maybe too strong. It is so strong that people think they can laugh, stuff ballot boxes, vote for whoever promises them the biggest government cash payoff. Will it work? ..or is this apathy a virus? I just read J. Trefil quote J. Lederberg: "Our only real competition for the dominance of the planet remains the viruses. The survival of humanity is not preordained." ..Look at that picture, ..Will America survive?

Looking4answers:

See here's the problem, if you think America is strong and not in trouble, you have no reason to fight to fix this nation and restore it to its former glory. This nation is in very big trouble right now and we need to take steps to undo the damage of the past 8 years. The baby boomers have been perhaps the worst generation of Americans ever and have left my generation with a royal mess to clean up. But we're angry and ready to take up the mantle of this great nation and lead it back from the brink.

CalCarp:

TOG, ..How are you going to lead anybody, anywhere, ..When you have no resource base? If we drive out more jobs, and productive people, with taxes and stifling regulations, ..the only place we can "lead" anybody will be to the nearest Social Security Office to put in an application for one of the last remaining bread crumbs! ..If we elect leaders using deceits and frauds, we have lost all control over the decision of where the national "vehicle" is pointed. I do not want to be taken for a "ride", ..even if it IS labeled as a "joy ride". This is America! ..and our most prized possession is our maintenance of a "free and honest" election. Without that, ..we are through.

Glenda:

Yes we that have searched for the truth do, that is why we have switched from Democrat to republican or independent, to voice our concern that we do care. In the last 30 years I do not ever remember an election being this bad or dirty or such violent reaction to a person if you don't believe the same way they do. Imagine all the terrorists and enemies of the USA are laughing their buts off at the Americans fighting each other, seperating & dividing our country.

James:

Dear Glenda,
Wow, well said.

CalCarp:

Good luck keeping a smile on your face, and your chin up. You sound like you are doing okay, and that is good. I actually think we as a nation are still doing .. a little okay. I mean we haven't yet started machine gunning each other, as some of those other nations do, ..not yet anyway. Good luck to our shared family!
