What if congress gave every tax paying Citizen in the US a million bucks?

There's 380 million of us. Would not that help get the economy back on it's feet much quicker than these silly bailout for the rich who squandered their money needlessly?
Dick:

Blade I would expect to see the prices of every thing just go through the roof if that were to happen and the stimulus it would be to the economy would be short lived.
About the only thing that will bring the economy back into check is time and stop with the manipulations.

Lovely:

I happen to agree with you and I thing government should stay out of the free market economy and let it work it's own magic.

.:

@Dick, a couple of points? this is a weird time, we have printed trillions, we should have seen rampant inflation like the 70s already?
and, if the monies were to be used for debt instead of a new car...after people got out from under their mortgages the economy would resume the usual supply and demand, maybe?
of course what would happen is the usual stupidity, get rich scams, swamp land for sale, booze and drugs, but it nice to dream. just the release of stress that over half the home owners are feeling now would be a blessing. and some sort of rebound in the market, an entire generations retirement has been halved, this can't be good in a few years. where will all the retirees live? how will they pay for that broken hip.....
@Blade, good question imo....

?mom?:

yeah that would be something... it could work..... with work

Lovely:

Do you really think so mom?

Lilley:

not going to happen now why would you need that much money

Lovely:

I have paid much more than that in all kinds of taxes over the years. I'd spend part of it to buy a new Chevrolet that was enviromentally friendly. That way I'd help GM-our economy, global warming and me and it wouldn't be necessary to spend any more of the govenment's money to bail out anyone else.

Muttin':

$380,000,000,000,000.00?
Spend 380 trillion dollars?

Lovely:

Try it again. I think your figures are wrong CA.

Porkenstein AKA Pork, Porky, Porkens:

He is right, I think you are talking about 380 quadrillion.

One Twisted Child:

No, CA is correct, 1,000,000 x 380,000,000 = 380,000,000,000,000. the 380 represents the trillions place. Read it from right to left and count out hundereds, thousands, million, billion, then you get trillion.
380 quadrillion would be 380,000,000,000,000,000

Sonnamae:

Yes, That could work, Look at the shopping that would be done!

Lovely:

WoW! Walmart would not be able to import enough goods from China to keep up with the demand of all the shoppers who would rock "Wally World" off it's hinges!

.:

somebody did the math with the 700billion and it came out to 10grand+ for everyone. this doesn't include the hidden amounts already and going to be disbursed(remember transparency? thats dead in the water)that the best economists say will amount to at least a trillion more. so double that amount to 20+grand. mandate the monies are to be spent on mortgages and paying down credit cards. this would have the immediate effect of putting some value in all those bankrupt derivatives, some legs under the stock market.(right now there is no bottom) not only would people be able to hold onto their homes, but there would be some basis to value them for sale, making a cash flow, the engine that drives the economy. it would at least buy time to stabilize this economy, save jobs, the whole ball of wax.
i agree with you on this one...
what's that i hear? the end of the world because we agree?...lol....
and for those not in debt, college funds, or preventative health care, all the things being stolen from us by squandering our tax dollars.

Lovely:

I didn't say I agreed with my question "free"! ;-)))

.:

hahahaha, the world is still safe....

JimBeam:

expense rise to meet income,
So we'd all now pay $1289.99 a gallon of gas

Lovely:

Price freezes would solve that problem.

JimBeam:

in that case giv me my mil. :)

Karen:

what if the world fell on my head, well I might complaine about that but not the million bucks!

Lovely:

If it happens-you might think you have been dropped on your head from 10 stories up. ;-)))

DAVID:

Well they would just want most of it back in all the higher taxes they are going to charge us to bail out all these large corporations. Geez

Lovely:

No taxes on the original million bucks tainler.

Seromenho:

then everything would 2 mil and we would all be retired

Lovely:

How will they get 2 million SB?

DoesDeathDefyDemons?:

sounds wonderful....and a bit socialist.

Lovely:

Very socialistic-but I doubt the socialists would ever return to the people all that money.

Glenda:

Will never happen, yes it would be nice to have one million, tax free, that would be a huge difference, getting something from the Govt. instead of paying the Govt.

Lovely:

It would Glenda! It would!

BUD 28:

http://www.census.gov/ Where did you get 380 mil?

Lovely:

Just a guess on my part Bud!

Sonnamae:

It says we can expect 400 million by the year 2039

DogLover:

Most of those citizens, would be broke by the end of the week. Thats what would happen.

Sonnamae:

Yes, that is what we want. the money in circulation. And then more spending.

Lovely:

A lot of citizens would squander their money away in a very short time Real Deal-I agree!

Smokin' Joe:

No, that would be as disastrous as the bailout will be. It would be a huge temporary boost to the economy but let's face it, most people can't handle money very well and those who can, don't need the money. Those who can't, would squander it, that's why they're broke now. Once the money was gone, we would be back to square one, only with an even bigger debt. A spending freeze, lower taxes, and less trade restrictions would be better but we elected the guy who wants to do the opposite.

Lovely:

Do you not trust people Smokin Joe to spend and save wisely? Is it those sort of people who live on welfare?

Smokin' Joe:

That's exactly what I'm saying, Blade. LOL. Car salesmen, appliance salesmen and drug dealers would make a bundle for about a year, then the car salesmen and appliance salesmen would be out of a job.
