How can governments reconcile the demands of the citizens for higher living standards with the ideol

Ask how the Europeans are coping. They simply can't write the checks any more, so Utopian benefits are being curtailed.

There is a point at which government (non-productive elements of the economy) must tell its less-productive citizens to put their unearned "benefits" where the sun don't shine. This happens when the productive elements of society (taxpayers, corporations, tarriffs) can no longer keep up with paying the bill for these unearned "benefits".

The alternative is financial collapse and the consequences thereof. (Insurrection is often among the "prettier" aspects of a financial panic.)

Please read some history, because it is exceedingly obvious that no one else seems to have learned anything from it. ;-)
