Can You Guess What Country I'm Talking About?

Toshi:

Almost everyone said the United States, for a variety of reasons from the fact that it is over 200 years-old, to the military strength, and some cynical people said the give-away for them was the exploitation of religion and the wealthy controlling everything from the judges to religious leaders. Well, I am sad to say this, but this answer was wrong.

Frighteningly, I would have thought the same thing, too, except I was looking at a study of Amos. Amos? Who’s that, you ask?

No, this Amos didn’t have a friend named Andy. The Amos I am referring to is the prophet GOD sent to Israel in 760 B.C. to warn the country of the coming judgment. The country to which I'm reffering is 8th century BC Israel, also known as the Northern Kingdom.

If you wish to read the whole article it's at http://www.estherproject.org

LIKABOO:

Wow... I must say I am impressed. Excellent insight!

LIKABOO:

Sounds like Iran to me

Toshi:

Last I knew, though, Iran was not a major international trade influencer. Iran isn't a major military power, nor do they have peace with it's neighbors.

All Iran has is oil.

LIKABOO:

Yep, you're right on all accounts. Ummm... China?

Toshi:

How many Chinese families own summer homes?

LIKABOO:

A fair number, I'm sure. Since capitalism is making inroads into China, an upper-class is emerging with both inland and coastal homes

Toshi:

See, that is why I like QnA, I didn't think of that. I still have the image that the majority of the Chinese are poor and live in country villages. Maybe it's stereotyping, I'll have to check into that.

Still, China, as a communist country, does not view religion as a tool. It is viewed as superstition and unenlightened thinking.

LIKABOO:

I'd agree with that. I think you may have more people in china with 2 homes... not necessarily because they are more wealthy, but because there is so much poverty and a second home would be pretty cheap to someone with means.

Yes, religion is much different in China, but equally important.
The way the masses are trained from when they are very young to worship the communist system really is a religion in its own right. It permeates the government, and you have a very high percentage of devotees both in politics and in the masses.

J!!:

U.S.A.

LIKABOO:

I hope not. It'd be an awefully cynical question if that were the answer.

Twisted sal:

Definitely the answer though, I reckon.

J!!:

Do you really think it's that cynical? The only country that screamed it's name to me when I read it was our own. (OK, well, it's not Nac's own :) ...) Perhaps I am more "cynical" in my thinking than I thought? Am I? You guys read my answers. Do I seem cynical? I really wonder now, because I really didn't give my answer a second thought, and no other country even came close to fitting the description. (Except maybe the ancient Roman Empire, but then the first clue wouldn't apply, would it? LOL!)

Twisted sal:

Nope LP, you don't seem cynical.
I thought at first it was maybe a trick question in which the surprise would be that it turns out not to be the US. But on second thought I think the surprise is meant to be that it is the US.
All the criteria seem to fit. Hmmm...

LIKABOO:

lol Princess relax :) The US was the first that came to mind to me too.

There are several things in the question that I disagree with that appear to be negative (and untrue) statements about the US. The answer was fine :) Hope ya win it

TheRosePhantom:

In re-reading the question, I will have to agree with the USA.

Johnny:

Interestring to note that the questioner saw fit to comment heavily on the last answer and not on this one. Obviously USA.

J!!:

Whew! That saved me from many sleepless hours of introspection. LOL! Thanks, Nac & Rob :)

Neny:

Agreed

TheRosePhantom:

Qatar?

Toshi:

The Qataran Army: A FORCE to be reckoned with... I'm just not seeing it. *lol* ;-D

TheRosePhantom:

I guess I didn't either.

Dvenz:

Chile?
I'm hungry for Chili now...

Toshi:

Me too... get me some while you're up. ;-)

Catita:

united states of america

Toshi:

Boy, it seems everyone thinks it's the US...

Tucker:

USA is the only one to fit the given profile.

Toshi:

Another vote for the US!

LIKABOO:

Nah... China fits it pretty well as well.

It depends on if you consider their militant communism that they indoctrinate their people into at a young age a "religion"

Toshi:

OMG, I just now noticed it's you, BIT!

Kevin:

CANADA

Toshi:

Canada...hmm... Their military is a world power, they are a major trade influence, and one of the wealthiest nations in the world. Is this an alternate Earth?

Gbob_north:

They are more imposing than many other nations.
