What are the best sites for information on Karl Marx?

Need it to get out of Eco. in Night school
HunnyEllieBunny:

Comedy??? Not good...

Gbob_north:

Ever read the manifesto? It is a bad joke.

HunnyEllieBunny:

Not looking for humor, really... It's a major grade, and I need info on KARL Marx...

Jack:

I'm sorry, but we refuse to be cooperative or helpful when it comes to a fellow who inspired the communist Chinese and Soviets to slaughter a couple hundred million souls since Karl's trash was first printed.

Print this out and tell your teacher that many of here are QnA have a serious problem with Marxist philosophy and "economics". Perhaps he/she will give you a pass.

Read about dead Austrians instead.

Gbob_north:

A marxist who is responsible for more deaths than any human in the world's known history.

HunnyEllieBunny:

I like one of the links, but thats it...

Gbob_north:

The only leader who actually tried to implement Marxism the way it was written got around 800 million people killed with it, the rest of communism is drastically different and more successful, not matter how flawed...still better than Marx.

HunnyEllieBunny:

For the record, Karl Marx has no relations to Groucho Marx the comedian...

Gbob_north:

I know that, I was being sarcastic.

Karl Marx's bedtime stories have lead to some of the worst tragedies in human history, the Marx Brothers made people laugh.

Meri:

First I'd hit - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karl_Marx

for a general overview; then use the reference links at the bottom of the page to get more details. From those pages, there will be even more links, and so on, and so on...

HunnyEllieBunny:

Wikipedia isn't good because anyone can tamper with it's information, and the links...

Jack:

Karl already tampered with his own information. ;-)

I still think Groucho is a far better choice.

HunnyEllieBunny:

Scott, enough!!!! I'm in a bind and not long to do the paper in!!!!! NO MORE COMEDY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!

Meri:

Regarding your blanket statement - "Wikipedia isn't good because anyone can tamper with it's information, and the links..."

Most of the article I referenced on Wikipedia is protected, especially the main article template. See below.

"This high-risk template has been protected from editing to prevent vandalism. (protection log). Please discuss changes on the talk page or request unprotection. You may use {{editprotected}} on the talk page to ask for an administrator to make an edit for you."

That article is as likely to be tampered with as any other article you find on any other Website.

If you can't tell that a link has been tampered with...well, I don't know how you can trust any information you may get on the Internet. You should probably use the library, but then again, maybe somebody could have slipped a phony book onto the shelf.

Bearsbrat:

Marx, was not as evil as many have made him out to be. His believe was that a third world nation could not get its feet off the ground economically unless they started with a communist form of government. He felt that as the country grew more prosperous it would start leaning toward a less socialistic nature to more free economy and that an advance economy would gravitate toward a more socialistic form. It is a constant flow depending on the nature and strength of the economy. He felt that the time would come when instead of country against country it would be rich vs. poor across country borders. Info from memory from when I was a political science student years ago.

HunnyEllieBunny:

Cool, thanks for the help!!!! And for the record, Best answer yet. Now, how do I stop Scott's remarks???

Ze'_Enigma of Dissidence..!!!:

Teddy, you're brilliant and I enjoy reading your answers even though sometimes I don't agree. His concept was strictly a socialist society in which government was the sole owner and proprietor. That's a lot different from the concept of social-democratic system which is the direction that most nations have gravited to.

Bearsbrat:

Thanks, FJA, I needed that. I enjoy your answers also. With a three star rating your are hard to miss.

Ze'_Enigma of Dissidence..!!!:

The principles that Marx espoused are found in the Communist Manefesto available at this link
http://www.mondopolitico.com/library/communistmanifesto/communistmanifesto_pt1.htm
Marx's writings saw the world as a struggle between the rich and the poor. He wrote at a time when Europe was mainly a agricultural society and concepts of capitalism began to emerge as part of the expansion of an industrial society. People were moving from the farms to the city seeking jobs in industry. Marx and others believed the owners of industry were exploiting the workers to enrichen themselves rather than society.
What he didn't recognize was the emergence of a "middle class" with tremendous political power and within a democracy the ability to transform the government to the will of the people. Instead he advocated a revolution where workers themselves controlled government and governement itself became the sole owner of industry and the benefactor of workers. Essentially, a socialist society.
About the same time, in our country workers were forming unions and striking for worker's right. The political processes recognized the increasing power of the unions and enacted federal laws that recognized union and guaranteed worker rights. Today the middle class is a "mixed bag" of small business owners, professionals, white collar and blue collar workers.
If you look at the damatic changes in Chinese society today you will recognize how a socialist society is rapidly changing and a middle class is rapidly developing and, with limits, so is the "bourgoisie" that Marx condemns. Perhaps over the next 20 plus years we will see China shed much more of its communist philosophy as middle and upper class political groups expand their pressure on governmental reform.
