AM I WRONG HERE?....I honestly want to know. This is relation to Rick's question that caused a

Gaylyn:

I saw a documentary where the owners of WalMart gave around 1 percent of their earnings to charity, whereas Bill Gates gave somewhere around 55 percent.

The Oracle:

You know, there's an old story....that went around in the days when the Rockefellers were at the heights....That if the Rockefellers gave away $100 to every man, woman, and child on earth- in 5 years they'd have it all back anyway because they are so heavily vested and invested. As to The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation....I do not have the exact figures. But remember, this is a man, albeit VERY smart, who built his empire rather ruthlessly.....he rubbed out anyone with his team of lawyers that could even remotely challenged him. A lot of really good, smart, people were snuffed out in the process. There was a time (we have Linux and Mac now) when Windows ruled the world.....For all of his giving (and remember, 56 billion dollars is a ten mile long convoy of tractor-trailer trucks, with each truck carrying 560 boxes of 1 million each, or in other words, 56,000 boxes of a million each)....this man could have singularly re-built New Orleans, or restored all the Tsunami damage. Also, let's not forget the tax angle, AND the fact that what does he give away a lot of? COMPUTERS of course!..Hello....It's almost a self-fulfilling prophecy...Again, I maintain that if Bill Gates were to give 99% of his wealth away, he'd still have more money than he could spend in 10 lifetimes......the clock is always ticking you know, interest on interest on interest alone is huge. I AM grateful these people give, but hey- let's get a grip- it is vastly overshadowed by what the masses of everyday citizens of earth do. Vastly.

Gaylyn:

you do have a point about "he could give away 99 percent and still have enough to live 10 life times"

I get so upset that especially during the holiday season all the commercials that are out there to make the little people with no money feel guilty and obligated to give money to help different situations all around the world.

Like you said....these heavy hitters, like Gates and Oprah and Trump could easily wipe out the need for homelessness and we , the little guys are picking up the slack again. (not to mention all those sports stars who have millions also!!!)

very good points all around!

The Oracle:

Thanks Mimi.

CONSERVATIVEATHEIST:

I think you are right on point. Dollar wise they exceed anything the little guy could donate but percentage wise what they give is insignificant. I have seen pictures of their lovely homes and I know that no TV would ever feature my humble little apartment with it's one bathroom for 8 people to use although we work hard to keep it as nice as we possibly can. I am bragging of course that I have a roof over my head and their are others that don't. I work with a population of homeless pregnant women and women with new babies that are on the lowest end of the socio-economic spectrum and I don't see people like Ms. Winfrey and Mr. Trump donating their time and business expertise to people like them to help them change their lot in life. Sometimes that's more important than the money.

I hope that all the showing off they do in the name of philanthropy encourages others to give of themselves and worthy causes. I wish they put the money they waste into more important endeavors than they do but it's their money and their mindset. On the ground level it's people like you who bring attention to places like the Hunger Site and therefore raising social consciousness that will really make a big change in this world.

The Oracle:

I really appreciate that my dear Jackie.....You know, my whole goal with that Hunger Site (and now freerice.com).....was to- no matter by what method- drag you in the back door, make you feel guilty, make you feel good, whatever it took to get you there- was to get you to go there, and then get you to get 10 others to go there and those 10 others to get 10 others, and so on.....Pretty soon we might have 1000 people a day clicking away!...The combined power is awesome.
Bless you for the work you do- it is so, so needed...and perhaps in the future, I can find some way to draw more attention to your cause. (I am kind of thinking of starting a blog site of my own...already got lucky with "The Oracle"..it's locked in....)
You are a beautiful human being.

CONSERVATIVEATHEIST:

Well since you posted the initial question that prompted me to visit the Hunger Site and click daily, I emailed some of my friends, about 300 of them. I've gotten promising replies that they would send it to all the people they knew. I have learned the power of networking and making friends and acquaintances with computer access and we use technology to gain back a little power that we poor folk had been denied for so long. You need to start another blog and keep raising the social consciousness bar. I keep trying to do my part but it's nice to know others have the same concepts on their agenda and strategic action plan.

The Oracle:

I am you and you are me and we are all together.......
One sad thought I have.....I recently saw a just brilliant program on PBS about the future of the internet, how it's our last true frontier for freedom of speech.....but alas, how this freedom will increasingly become bottle-necked by economics: i.e., internet speed. It will become, I assure you, a privilege issue- those that can pay for the ever-increasing speed will have access, those that cannot will be left in the dust. And those that control that very speed will therefore by default control the content.....There goes THE last freedom of expression......

Mikaidarah:

God bless you, you said it all,....best answer to you!

Mikaidarah:

This response was for oracle, sorry Mimi, we must have entered at the same time.

The Oracle:

Thank you very, very, much.....God Bless you also.

Gaylyn:

hey...no offense taken... have a great day.

Britestar:

I don't have enough experience with Oprah to have an honest opinion of her and I doubt I ever will.

Trump is about 90% ego and 10% man. His life's work is self promotion and would tell you so himself. I don't even think he considers it bragging. The concept is alien to him.

The Oracle:

ROFL!...that's a good point. One day though, much like the story of Narcissus.....you know how that ends, right?

Britestar:

If I were Trump, I would avoid mirrors like a vampire.

The Oracle:

LMAO....

Mikaidarah:

Oracle, you seem to know quite a bit about many things, maybe you could look at my Best Buy question, even if only to help me contact the correct people for my children. Also, we won't always be down, and I don't want their feeling to change about helping others. Also I would like to know if we have been giving to a REAL charity!

The Oracle:

OK...give me a little time to do some digging..glad to help.....

The Oracle:

Ok, done, go back to your question......

Mikaidarah:

?? must not have gone through? thank you though.

The Oracle:

Look again...lol....a LONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG answer!!! Merry Christmas!

Russ:

Agreed. Not much I can add that hasn't been said. As an accountant, I know the numbers, and it is difficult for me not to get totally cynical.

The Oracle:

Thanks russ.

Baroque:

Wow Oracle I know what you mean. Trump (DO NOT LIKE HIM!!!)
Oracle I know you are familiar with the the woman and her tithe of what 1 or 2 coins and Jesus' response. We live in a dark world Jesus told us it is not a "Just World" For my trump comment I know it's not for me to judge and yet I still did it. I'm truly grateful that after I leave this dark world I have heaven thru GOD'S grace= love. Has for Oprah yes she is very rich maybe she could give more right. No matter how she gives at least she does. When I think of Mother Teresa Wow
no home, no retirement, no big fancy car that's God like!!
Oracle look at some of the T.V. Evangelist private jets 12.5 million dollar homes. Do you see where I'm going with this? I have to let go and let GOD.

The Oracle:

Yes, I suppose you are right. It's a fallen- VERY fallen world indeed....especially in these Last Days. I SHOULD concentrate more on this principle- let go and let God....It's just that I get so incensed at the inequity of it all, the injustice of it all....it sometimes (often) breaks my heart and spirit....it's almost as though I can't wait until Christ returns and restores everything back to the unperverted way it was designed to be.
