Do you think capitalist greed negatively affects the economy?

DoesDeathDefyDemons?:

Not as long as Wal-Mart keeps that smiley face marking down those prices. The GDP is down only slightly. Are you advocating a redistribution of wealth in this country?

Seriously, capitalism feeds on greed.

Kenny93101:

Yes I do.

Sunni:

With the poor getting poorer and all the reasons why the rich are getting richer YES I do think it affects the economy.

Mac....Of Moot and Mac:

your premise is wrong...people are getting richer....middle class is increasing in numbers....many poor have moved into the middle class....Rich people do things that keep them rich....poor people do things that ensure they stay poor......some don't stay in that category...they actually work their way out.

Spike:

Well stated!

"Rich people do things that keep them rich....poor people do things that
ensure they stay poor......some don't stay in that category...they
actually work their way out."

Sunni:

Yes the poor people sign stupid contracts that will make them loose their homes that the rich have designed to fool them.
I am lucky enough to have enough education not to have signed that contract is the only reason I'm not getting poorer than I am. The gap is spreading wider than ever. And to not see that is denial.

Maggie:

Poor people are essential in a capitalistic society. The vast majority, actually, must be poor or middle-class in order for it to work. The ones who work their way out simply replace the ones on top who fall. Not everyone can be on top.. not everyone can be rich.. for there would be no top, nor rich, if everyone were to ascertain those positions.

Mac....Of Moot and Mac:

Capitalist greed is what has employed millions and millions and millions....I've never been offered a job by a poor man

Aquarius the Brett:

I'd offer you a job but you'd expect too much from me! :)

Mac....Of Moot and Mac:

I'd expect only a days work for a days pay...would that be asking too much?

Aquarius the Brett:

probably I haven't got that much! :)

Mac....Of Moot and Mac:

Then you'll always be looking to the man for work...what if the man closes his factory?

Aquarius the Brett:

I'd capitalize an open my own but I still couldn't pay you just yet! :)

Ed:

No. For every voluntary transaction, either both parties are better off than before the transaction, or one party is better off, and the other party is the same. The more transactions in an economy, the more wealth is generated. The rising tide lifts all boats.

Aquarius the Brett:

It's a capitalist system that supports this kind of behavior but on the other hand dealing with communist economies could severely damage a capitalist economy if the frugal liberalization of the market economy doesn't occur.

Mac....Of Moot and Mac:

Which would you prefer...Capitalism or Communism?

Aquarius the Brett:

If I had company I'd choose to capitalize on that but not so much over my immediate company but I wont let them hold me back either. Easier to be generous with extremities in exploitation!

Maggie:

Communism is a good idea in theory... just badly executed.

Spike:

You omitted Socialism..

Mac....Of Moot and Mac:

......and neither work...the people throw the systems off

Spike:

What we need is a welfare program like Mexico has. :)

Ed:

Communism is good in theory according to who? Certainly not economists or mathemeticians who do the computer modeling and mathematical simulation.
What model or simulation or model has ever shown communism to work?

Maggie:

If individualism persists in a communistic society, it will never work. That is probably why it fails. People want to be individuals in a collective society. Take out the individualistic tendencies of human beings, and what do you get? An efficient "machine" doing whatever is necessary to further itself.

There doesn't need to be a model that shows it to work, Ed. It is good for the common whole... the only thing that stops it, is ourselves.

Maggie:

Of course. But, for a capitalist society to work, the vast majority must be on the bottom. Capitalism rewards those already with wealth... not ones who create wealth...
