Will the world be more democratic when everything is owned by multinationals

When seeds are patented, water privatised, roads, currency & media owned by multinational companies, will the world be more democratic? Will your vote mean anything anymore?
Noloki:

We'll have to apply for water in German, and power in Japanese.

It's just another way for the big guy to bend the little guy over the ol' pickle barrel. I think selling our infrastructure is a huge mistake.
Voting is already a sham. (and the choices are the same- Between wet and dry dog vomit- I don't want either)

BLUE CAFE:

Terror, as always, a good answer

Noloki:

Thanks-
Great Q.

TheYolksNotWhite:

In the end all multi-nationals are owned by people. If you are concerned about them having control then you need to start buying you share as soon as possible.

BLUE CAFE:

ahh, & so it goes, the more money you have, the more control you get. A vote empowers the wealthy & poor alike.

I-know-it:

Hence, the end of democracy when money equals a vote? Does it now?

BLUE CAFE:

@Bewitched: Hey there, currently our politicians stand, more or less for whoever buys them out, (wealthy lobbies for example) which is not ideal, but at the very least, we can vote them out if we so wish if we use the power of the overwhelming majority & really put our democracy to work. However, when all is privatized, it will be the shareholders that sway the powers that own everything. The more shares, the more sway you have in the society you live in. The poor will be completely underpowered to change their position in life as profit & shareholder returns will be the driver of decisions.

I-know-it:

I'm starting to see more reasons not to do this than to do it. It sounds like the poor will be washed away and they'll become destitute and homeless. Those street vendors and tip people like waitresses won't be able to survive this, really interesting debate.

BLUE CAFE:

Yep. it will in a very real way create a permanent (large) underclass ruled by a very small, powerful elite. This is cultural engineering at work.
Thanks for being part of this debate Bewitched. It's been a pleasure

Kevin13285:

Well.... voting in the USA seems your vote doesn't count as we have those superdelegates and delegates that over ride the popular vote. So yes, our votes don't mean anything any more.

BLUE CAFE:

true

I-know-it:

In my opinion when you start to have other countries able to invest to such a degree that they start to have a say and power, that isn't good. It might start out nice but money equals power equals influence.

BLUE CAFE:

Agreed Bewitched. :)
This is sort of along the lines of the centralized money thread we had going. I saw your response but didn't get a chance to respond. You response was "Why?". (Why would it be dangerous). Would you let Brussels control a global currency? ;)
Thanks
Ant

I-know-it:

I must answer questions with questions a lot, smiling. Why do you single out Brussels? Why would they be the ones controlling it, because of NATO and their existing political influence? I guess I see your point, I think it would be great to have one currency but who would get to be the country in charge of distribution etc, who does anybody really trust? This question just seems to bring more questions up, can the world we live in afford to act globally, can we afford not to?

BLUE CAFE:

Thanks bewitched. It would be an illusion to think the the US would be in control of the currency, simply because there is no logical reason as to why the US should. In fact, Brussels has already been mapped out as the world central Bank. It's just a matter of time. A few economic collapses & we'll be wanting it. Then they get rid of the cash & bring in RFID implants. Why? Because they are the perfect form of money.

I-know-it:

But if there's no cash and everything is on a credit chip, is that what you mean? Then what happens to street vendors etc, unless I'm misreading.

BLUE CAFE:

That's correct, everything on chip, in your hand. "Street vendors", due to the cash based business they are, are a tax hole. They often don't declare what they can get away with. If it's all chip even street vendors will need portable chip readers (not a great stretch when you consider everyone has cell phones - here in Japan cell phones also double up as chip money - just press it to the chip reader on the vending machine for instance. BIP!)
The thing is, the Feds of the world don't want that tax to get lost. If it's all on chip, no more taxless transactions. Every transaction is recorded & the tax taken out at Point Of Sale. Street Vendors will be largely replaced by big business anyway, & the ones left will need chip readers which will be wireless, just like cell phones. The danger is, you lose your anonymity, your privacy & if it's global, you won't have a vote in it. Oh, & as a Christian, you'll be taking the quick route straight to hell if you believe the Book of Revelations when it speaks of the Mark of the Beast. Interesting reasons not to go global.

I-know-it:

I answered on Darkroom below about the vending issue, as for Christianity, I'm no moralist I think of myself as a believer but more like a wayward one. I think the coldness of it all scares me, the rich will thrive, the middle class be burdened as usual and the poor replaced by homeless and hopeless.

BLUE CAFE:

@Bewitched: Crikey, we're seeing eye to eye more so every day!
Thanks

Jodi:

I don't think so and our minds and bodies will be so poisoned and our wills so weakened by the campaign of fear that will maintain the new world order that it will not matter until the day we wake up in large numbers and renew our visions of freedom....

BLUE CAFE:

Indeed! Thank you

Jodi:

Welcome.....

Blue Gypsy Rose:

the word DEMOCRACY is as ancient as the civilization that first promoted it.....it didn't work than, it would not work in the present time....progress has changed everything in the world, except for HUMAN GREED.....

BLUE CAFE:

in a nutshell

Samuel Deva:

one might as well wipe one's self with the one vote, at least that would be a good use for it...

BLUE CAFE:

Yes, quite true.
