Why do people not realize that your taxes will go up when the Bush tax cuts expire?

________________________:

Our tax advisor called us in for a meeting after our 2007 taxes were filed and told my husband, who has to take a minimum withdrawal from his IRA every year, to take a lot more out this yr and next year because the taxes are going to be substantially higher after the Bush tax cuts expire. Otherwise I would not have known it. We did follow her advice and I'm glad we did.

Albert Page:

You need to consider a few things first. Bush's tax cuts meant a couple things. For instance - 25% of the nation did not recieve any tax cuts. Out of the 75% that did - here is how it is broken down:
If you made $1,000,000/yr or more then your tax cut would be about 11.2% or $112,925.
If you made say...$35,000/yr then your tax cut would have been 3.4% or $825.
If you made $80,000 in a year then that meant you recieved a tax cut of 3.3% or $2,543.
So - effectively - the Bush Tax Cuts did nothing more than give huge tax cuts to the filthy rich - and everyone else barely saw a change. Consider that if you made $35,000 working 40/hr weeks. The tax cut would have been the same exact thing as you getting a .04 cents/hr raise. If you had recieved the same percentage break the millionaires got - then it would have equalled to about a raise of $1.90/hr.
Don't kid yourself. The tax cuts are another plan that was promoted to look like a good thing. It is not a good thing. You were tricked in to believing it mattered and you were cared about. Don't buy it.

LG:

I fall in the $35K range but the company I work for fell in the range that got the higher tax cuts(the company is privately owned) and then every year since then I have gotten very generous raises that would not have been available if they were paying the higher tax rate. When I started working there there was total employment at all TX facilities of less than 100 people and now we have almost 200 employees in TX. So you see you will never convince me that tax cuts for those that create jobs is a bad thing. Because more jobs mean increased tax revenue for the nation.

Albert Page:

So the bosses of your companies make over a million dollars a year and now you are thankful that because they can profit more they can sprinkle some more down to the people who earn them money?
Ok. Whatever floats your boat.
You seem to forget the major flaw in these cuts. That the bottom 99.5% of the nation will not send the government a certain amount and the top .5% that make a million or more will not send a certain amount. That amount is by far greater for the filthy rich. And these tax cuts will increase our national debt trillions of dollars by 2010! That is not good for the economy. That is not good for the jobs. Stop thinking short term. Look at the nation now. Bush's budget plans have destroyed our economy. Is your job safe if it gets even worse?

Albert Page:

And do consider that if your boss does make that much. Let's say he makes 1.5 million a year. THan that means it would take you slightly over 2 full time weeks to earn what he makes in 2 hours. He would make an average of $721/hr while you would make around $16.80/hr.
I fail to see how that he is being generous. Specially when you consider that if you made the same hourly wage and only worked 20 hours a week you would be in the poverty level.

LG:

Did you consider that he is putting huge amount of money at risk each and everyday that we produce that the sales will be there to cover the cost of production. How much of your income do you put on the line each and everyday for the benefit of your company and fellow employees. Those that risk the most should earn the most. Those that risk the most are the one that create jobs for the rest of us.

Albert Page:

I can tell you that when I had my company in Columbus I had two employees. I paid myself $48,000/yr and my employees made the same exact thing. And every single dime went into my company that wasn't used for salaries. I did not even think for a minute to put myself above people who worked for me.
I'm not saying your boss should be the same. I tend to be very off-center in how I consider my life and the lives of others around me. I'm just saying that you know...when Clinton was in office - Florida didn't have a 10% unemployment rate. That is unheard of in this place. This is the freaking tourist capital of the states, ya know?
And my business has not seen a tax difference. And if it did - I say raise my taxes if you have to so I can get some more business. Because there simply isn't that much money in the economy down here right now and people aren't buying anything. The national debt has been lowered by two Presidents in 30 years. Carter and Clinton.

Munkey:

They are blind........they can only here Obama cry tax the rich make them pay but he could care less about your jobs.

Albert Page:

Are you misinformed or just clueless? The tax increases would have effected only the very top 2% people in this nation. That doesn't mean lost jobs. Are you drunk? 99% of businesses are owned by people who make far less than the top 2%. Do the math. Don't believe all this stupid hype that is intended to trick you. THis isn't even a liberal or conservative thing. It is math. Math for God's sake.
If roughtly every single business owned in the United States is owned by people in the lower 98% tax bracket. Then how will that lead to jobs being lost? Well - yes George - Starbucks might have less than 4 stores per city block. But damnit - people will be able to open their own stores when the corporate world of coffee has to leave the area. And that will create money for local economies and jobs.
Do the math. Use insight and think things through from every angle and you might see that hey - wow. They do still support the rich and the corporations!
