Why did Congress hold hearings re steroid and HGH in baseball? Why didn't they hold hearings re...

predatory lending practices? Why aren't we furious???
Rettag:

boy oh boy - no kidding!!!! because of these "lending practices" this country is in big trouble and a long recession ahead of us.

MaggieD:

Agreed, Boots.

I should have never allowed these lower Houses to be created

MaggieD:

Hahaha!!! Okay then! I'm blamin' you!!

Mac....Of Moot and Mac:

The King shall remain blameless....Blame the Queen

MaggieD:

Okay, Millary. ;-)

MamaV:

The use of steroids without a legal prescription is a class 3 felony. These men have broken laws. The fact that these men have probably done this in many states make this crime a federal case. The fact that for many years of the Baseball Committee, looking the other way while this was going on, complicates this crime even more. These men should be tried for their crimes, and if convicted should serve the time allowed by law. They should also have all their records removed, and be banned from ever being allowed to play baseball again professionally. This would send the message to all that just because you are a professional athlete, it does not excuse you from following the law, that was put there for all of us.

MaggieD:

Congress should not be involved in enforcing Federal Laws. They make them. Just because a crime has occurred in many states does not make it a Federal offense. They broke the laws (if indeed they DID) in the states they were in. If they did break the laws, they should be arrested. Period. Hearings were held, in my opinion, because it allowed lots of face time for the committee. ESPN and all that. It doesn't take Congress to get someone arrested for breaking the law.

In the meantime, our housing market has crashed due to predatory lending practices throughout the country. Congress makes laws. Congress should have seen this coming. Oh, wait, they get donations to their campaigns from big banks. Oops.

When the Fed has set rates at the lowest in decades, credit cards are charging you and me 29% interest. I thought juice was illegal. Where's hearings on THAT? We'd better wise up or it'll be too late.

T:

I'd take a better economic plan over eradicating steroids from sports.

DoesDeathDefyDemons?:

Congress is not enforcing the law, the Oversight Committee will send a report to the Justice Dept if they see anything irregular. Then the Justice Dept will do it's own investigation and enforce the law.

T:

Yeah, I posted a question like this yesterday. Not sure what the gov. is doing sticking its nose in sports. Therre are bigger fish to fry on their tables, but they are drawn to the glamour of confronting sports issues. Its a shame really.

MaggieD:

Yeah, it is, Michael. I think it's all about "face time." So shallow.

Jasmania16:

cause they want too.they see that it is better than those other.

MaggieD:

Thank you, Acon.

DoesDeathDefyDemons?:

It was the Oversight Committee, not the entire Congress, who conducted these hearings. Because the gov't granted exceptions (to MLB and other sports) concerning certain antitrust laws, it is the Oversight's job to look into collusion and possibly revoke these exceptions due to the appearance of or existence of impropriety.
The same thing happened a few years ago when the player's association asserted that free agency was being "colluded" against.
When the gov't does it's job, celebrate. When they don't YELL LIKE HELL. I hope this helps you understand when to do each.
