If we were to nominate Billykid for president of the USA based on his economic plan, how many of==>>

you would vote for him? http://qna.live.com/ShowQuestion.aspx?qid=4D60815D3365465BA7D4039DA8E68D97&pUrl=ShowUser.aspx%3fview%3d1We could add Russ as head financial adviser and Blixa as head of the DEA. What do you all think?
Bewitched:

LOL Wow! Thanks for your support, Shenandoah!

Shenandoah:

heehee--I thought you might be better placed as head of the DEA rather than VP. I don't think you are even old enough to be VP.

MamaV:

No, lol but I would sign any petition he wishes to start that process. :)

Shenandoah:

Kind of makes you think, doesn't it. Of course, having such a well-known outlaw as a presidential nominee might present a few problems to credibility...

?mom?:

hi... I would vote for billykid!!! and Russ and Blixa

Shenandoah:

Oh good, we're on our way. §('°_°')§

Une Quete:

If you're over 50 - sure it sounds great.

If your an 18 year-old just starting out in life, you may be a little resentful that the generation who has been in charge over the past 30 years and has significant responsibility for the things that have gone wrong while they've been on watch is getting million dollar payouts for their generation's mistakes, while the younger generation gets to work and dig everyone else out of the hole they helped create.

Une Quete:

To answer your question, no I would not vote for anyone based on that sort of economic plan.

Russ:

most over 50's have been busting out butts for the last 30 years, raising the 18 year olders you speak of...
now it is we who are being shown the door as economic times get hard...

Shenandoah:

you might consider the fact that most of those people are just honest workers who have done their best to keep their heads above water and are still trying to do so. They have paid honest taxes, honest social security, and most have strived to serve their country and raise their children in an honest way. Really, you shouldn't judge a whole generation just because of a few's mistakes. It's like sayng that all kids in the younger generation are degenerate and illiterate, just because a few have made their mistakes.

Tbhs_12:

a great answer to a silly question.

Shenandoah:

@cuddles--I also said it was fun--but it is also something to think about.

Une Quete:

I am not judging either of you (who I assume are over 50), but those 18 year-olds who will be responsible for your elder care and will head up the ensuing governmental agencies might.

A million dollar payout doesn't go very far after the dollar is severely devalued and outrageous inflation hits. Oh, wait - you'll be collecting the social security benefits that we contribute to then, since the social security YOU pay now goes to those who are CURRENTLY 65+.

Une Quete:

Thanks, cuddles.

Shenandoah:

as we paid for those before us...But I really think that might be eliminated; who knows. But, consider how much your parents have paid out for you in your growing years. Did you you complain then about them spending too much, or did you complain that they weren't spending enough?

Une Quete:

Personally, I've earned my own way since I was 14 and I haven't complained about anything. I am thankful for what my family gave me, and I'm sorry if you resent that you had to pay out longer for any dependent children you may have had or still have. WE will be supporting YOU for FAR longer than 14 years. Your point that Social Security will likely be eliminated by the time I reach retirement age is NOT a point in your favor.

Tbhs_12:

silly is fun..no?

Une Quete:

@cuddles - Sure, ask Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert. : )

Glenda:

Maybe you should alternate yours media sources or research for yourself, maybe just maybe its your news source speaking, instead of you,

Une Quete:

Glenda, did I say that I only watch Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert to find out what's going on in the world? (No, I did not.)

I would, however, suggest that some of those who DO NOT watch those programs pay a little bit more attention to them because they have a powerful influence on the younger demographic.

Une Quete:

Being aware of something is NOT the same as dependency.

Shenandoah:

@Misbehaving--Actually, I really enjoyed paying for a very grateful daughter, including payments for school even when my husband and I didn't even have money to eat. By the way, I really wouldn't be eligible for the plan as I am self employed, and contribute to paying social security still. I am a translator and a writer, and will be able to sustain myself far into the future. And remember, YOU are the one who was complaining about supporting aging parents.

Une Quete:

Shenandoah, I am not complaining about supporting my aging parents, and I extend my congratulations to you for your family's success in the world.

Getting back on topic - regardless of your or my own personal circumstances, the economic plan presented by BillyKid has very serious flaws and is VERY lop-sided, only benefiting the aging portion of our population. Your question asked whether we would vote for him based on that economic plan, and my answer is still a resounding NO. I would consider a plan that takes into consideration ALL segments of the population, INCLUDING the 18 year-olds, without blatantly catering to the 50+ crowd.

Une Quete:

Your generation inherited what the previous generation fought hard to achieve. You are suggesting that the upcoming generation deserves to inherit what your generation (notice I did not say YOU personally) worked hard to destroy. To dismiss the very real possibility of resentment by the younger generation and the impact it will have on everyone's future is unwise.

Shenandoah:

read it again--he also offered in this way 40 million jobs to younger people (-50) plus help to a failing industry, which would mean still more job openings for young people. Think about it.
And, I really think that someone as intelligent as you consider yourself to be should also consider the idea that you probably won't be taking care of your parents that long; my grandmothers were both self sufficient until the age of 97. One died at that age, and the other lived in a nursing home paid with her own funds until she died three years later. I don't think YOU will have to worry: I'm sure NO ONE would want to force themselves on someone who would complain of their presence 24/365.

Une Quete:

I don't recall saying that I thought myself any more or less intelligent than anyone.

Very thoughtful of him to give the youth ready made positions to support the older generations instead of encouraging entrepreneurs, creativity and inventiveness. Sorry, Shenandoah. You can insult me and share as much of your personal life with me as much as you want, but it's still not going to make me think that BillyKid's economic plan is worthy enough to vote him as President of the U.S. : )

Shenandoah:

i never said you had to, but I still don't think you should be so anti-50+. Because the things you put forward were wrong--not your opinion of Billykid's economy plan. You spent your entire time offending a group of people which you too will one day be a part of, not defending your thoughts on why the program wouldn't work.

Une Quete:

Shenandoah, I think it's best that this be dropped. You and I do not see eye to eye. I am not "anti-50+," as a matter of fact, that's very far from the truth. There is a difference between that, and not supporting the ideas you are defending. I have defended my thoughts, but you are unwilling to take yourself, personally, out of the equation. You're arguing too much from emotion. But hey, I know you will say I'm wrong there also. : ) It's fine that you think I'm wrong - I think you are wrong, as well. We are each entitled to our opinions, and that's the great thing about this forum, isn't it? I ain't voting for BillyKid based on his plan, and you ain't backing down from defending your "podnah." We'll agree to disagree, and walk away civilly - deal?

Une Quete:

After rereading our entire conversation I can see where you might have the impression that I am "anti-50+" as you put it.

This is the point I have been trying to make to you - when you are developing or helping promote a political agenda (in this case our virtual "BillyKid for President" campaign), you have to take into account all sides. You cannot just deny them simply because you think it's wrong or do not agree. In your scenario there WOULD be a segment of youth who would feel resentful about the things you propose for the reasons I gave - whether their opinion be right or wrong. That resentful disenchantment would cause grave problems later on down the line. I get what you're saying and why you're saying it, I really do. Just because you've raised a wonderful and respectful daughter does not mean that everyone else has. I'm responsible for throwing the first "jab" at you when I suggested that you may have had to support dependents for longer than you would have (cont.)

Une Quete:

liked. I am sorry for saying that. In my next comment I did try to get this whole conversation back on the topic of the issues and not a personal level. I feel that you continued to keep it at a personal level from that point on - insulting me on several occasions rather than keeping it at a national level. If you feel that by pointing out the fact that there would be a segment of the population who would be resentful of that plan I have somehow offended everyone over 50, I don't really know what to tell ya. I won't apologize for that because it's just the way it works - right or wrong. I respect your opinion and how your family has chosen to live. I'd like to end this dialog on a positive note. I'm not upset or offended, nor was it my intention to upset or offend you. I think we're running out of comments here so I'll leave the rest for you. Take your best shot if you want but I'm extending an olive branch to you and walking away peacefully. Thanks for dialoging with me. :)

Shenandoah:

I accept-It was just a joke, a play on another question. We have to consider, as you said, that a part will always be contrary to any proposition that is made, even in real life. There might even be a majority that would take the proposal to heart and really fight for it, and of course, there would also be the opposition, and it's understandable in a world where every person is unique. I appreciate your input, and for giving a different point of view. I don't necessarily agree--as I said to Billy, I don't drive...and yes, I did take it somewhat personally, because I do fall into the category, and you gave some pretty hard shots, some of which went below the belt. Be that as it may, the question was a game and I thank you for participating in it.

Mtn? G?L N?rma:

Yes, I would most definetly...In fact I'll help with his campaign!

Shenandoah:

thanks, Norma. All help will be appreciated...Wonder what he'll have to say about this.

Mtn? G?L N?rma:

He will probably back pedal...heheheh But wouldn't it be great?

Shenandoah:

In hypothesis, yes...

Sun357:

yes I would vote for all of them :)

Mtn? G?L N?rma:
