Do you think that the bank bailout was a socialist act?

Ginger:

No. Socialism is an economic system based on collective ownership.

The bank bailout is a economic maneuver; not a political process. It is well in line with Keynesian economics, which is certainly not socialistic.

It has already provided a boost to the U.S. dollar index, which was at 76.17 in late September. It closed out October at 80.88.

TheYolksNotWhite:

Finally , someone with Knowledge. Thank you for the reassurance.

Muttin':

Finally, someone with knowledge???

By definition, a component of socialism is ownership by a centralized government that plans and controls the economy. It's clear as day to see the $700 billion bailout of the banking industry as anything but financial socialism.

And so you are saying Social security is an economic maneuver as well ginger?
There is no way you can hide the government's plans to turn this great nation into Socialism. Quit helping them do it!

Ginger:

@CA
As usual, your opinions exceed your facts.

SULLY:

Are we not headed directly to: "An economic system based on collective ownership?" Do you think the dollar is going to hold? What do you think it will be on Nov. 6th?

SULLY:

Unrelated: The Supreme Courts decision, Eminent Domain. Do you see any Socialistic leanings?

Muttin':

The fact is right there!!? What are you talking about? As usual you are speaking about something you clearly do not understand. I can't remember if you're a McCain or Obama supporter, but this bailout socialism will only get worse if you don't get off its bad wagon....
Here,Go read up on what you vote for and why in always fails.....

Ginger:

Good morning, Elexa.

The government does not have anywhere near the resources needed to buy up our economy. We do not even have enough to buy up the banks. We are a capitalist economy, protected by the constitution with three separate branches of government to provide checks and balances.

The dollar is likely to hold for some time. There is currently a global recession involving much of Europe and most of Asia. We are ahead of them in addressing our financial problems. Several European countries are now starting to inject money into their banks, as we did.

Watch the Japanese yen.

Muttin':

^That was @ ginger.

Ginger:

@ CA Your link really does not define socialism. Try this one from the same source.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialism

SULLY:

Ginger, first let me say, (after strapping on my bullet proof vest) I am not entirely against "some" elements of socialism. Do we really know how much money the government has?
" We are a capitalist economy protected by the Constitution." Have you not witnessed the perversions to this protection in the last 8 years?

Muttin':

Ok ginger. Im so tired of debating people like you that are blind to the point of....*
And Fine that site explains it to. The link I provided for you explains what Marxism is.
According to Marxism, socialism is a stage of social and economic development that will replace capitalism, and will in turn be replaced by communism. Thus, in Marxist terms, a socialist state is a state that has abolished capitalism and is moving towards communism.

I will not vote for What Obama stands for. Its not what America is. Just like what Bush has done in the exact opposite. McCain is just left of center.
Before you say anything further, Just know that I am a Ron Paul supporter and have been for 2 years. But we can agree on one thing though.. please watch....

Ginger:

Yes, Elexa. I have witnessed what I believe to be violations of the 4th amendment. There are still aspects of that being addressed by congress and the phone companies are still lobbying for protection against liability suits.

Ginger:

@CA The government is not trying to replace capitlism. It is trying to preserve it and prevent a depression..

Muttin':

Yes! now you know why the conservatives are so pissed at McCain and Bush and The Democratic Congress! How in the world are we allowing it to get worse by voting in Obama?!

TheYolksNotWhite:

Well It looks like our choice is between an old socialist (McCain) and a young socialist(Obama). Either way we get a socialist.

Muttin':

That is true but one of them is an extremist 10 times further left than the majority of this country. McCain is just left of center and Obama tilts the scale into full On Socialism. Vote McCain to keep your freedoms. Vote Obama to take more of them.

Muttin':

Hence the phrase 'lesser of the two evils'

TheYolksNotWhite:

"10 times further left than the majority of this country"
We will find out if your statement is true on Teusday. I don't think that 90% of Americans are voting for McCain, but you could be right.

Porkenstein AKA Pork, Porky, Porkens:

If you vote for the lesser of two evils, you still get evil.

Sean-Ryan:

Hell No,

Socialism does not endorse giving the equivalent of a country in europe's entire yearly budget.....plus..........to private enterprises, owned by people trying to profit from same.

Socialism would by it's very nature already be heavily involved in managing the corporations and banks to the point of eliminating any chance of financial criminals mismanging the assets for personal gain.
Having said that.....Socialist governments are notorious for snuffing out potential monetary gardens and replacing them with the impossible ideal of sharing the wealth with everyone.
The problem with that idea is it kills motivation to achieve,,,,,,save.......or take chances to get ahead or see your kids be better off than you were.

Ask most citizens of Cuba if they feel socialism is a viable system for their kids and grandkids.
Most of them report like the free medical insurance......but hate the quality and quanity of medical services available in a system that doesn't reward hospitals or medical people for achieving excellence in their fields.
The bailout of the banks and corps. was an option that we had no choice but to endorse. If you let the biggest and most deeply entrenched financial outfits just dry up and blow away......you end up with collateral damage so extensive that America's future and the world;s by association would be in jeopardy beyond comprehension.
It would make the great depression look like a picnic at the park by comparision. Most of the world's governments trade in American dollars, either by grants, loans, outright gifts and bribes, ect.
If we fall into darkness here.........the rest of the world is merely weeks behind us. Whether they care to admit it or not. I have relatives in Denmark who called me thinking that our economic woes wouldn't reach them.......It took 3 weeks for their economy to start sliding. They were amazed. Go figure!

As hard as it is t

John P:

I think the bailout was stupid. All I read about and see is how those who got the bailout have given themselves big money bonuses and vacations at the middle class expense. Then all you see is the millions in profits that they all report. the government has taken from the middle class and made the rich richer and the middle class has just become part of the poor class. Our government sucks.

BUD 28:

No! A capitalist act.
