If you could drill a hole through the earth and dropped a ball down the hole what would happen?

Note that the hole is insulated from heat and is sealed of in a vacum. Therfore air and temperature would not affect it.
A2z:

You would hit a Pluto planet sized solid iron crystal core which resides in the core of Earth. Wow huh!

Politics junkie:

It would bounce around a bit then stay sitted perfectly in the centre of the Earth, Gravity.

Texas Girl:

you would loose your ball.

Politics junkie:

true!

Bev:

LOL :)

Nitro:

As the ball descended, less and less of the Earth's gravity-producing mass would be below it and a correspondingly greater portion above. At the earth's center, the gravitational attraction pulling the ball forward would exactly equal that pulling it back up, but its momentum would keep it moving until it emerged from the other side, stopped, and started back the other way. Put simply, it would oscillate until air friction dissapated its kinetic energy and would eventually come to rest at the planet's center of mass.

Nano:

But it's in a vacum. (sorry I can't spell)

Porkenstein AKA Pork, Porky, Porkens:

I also don't think it would ever come to rest the centrifugal force at the center of the Earth would be enormous.

A2z:

actually you would stop at the solid crystal iron core of the Earth, which rotates 0.3 to 0.5 times faster than the outer crust. Daily. Straingly, the 1,500 mile wide inner core is solid, and an outer core molten electrically conductive iron is some 15,00 miles thick and surrounds this solid inner core, it's rotaion generates our magnetic field. Isn't that ironic how the solid core and the outer molten layer are have the same measurment "15,000. Spooky-cool at it's finest.

A2z:

By the way, the crystal iron core of the Earth is approximately the same size as Pluto.

Kevhav1:

Simple Harmonic Motion.....dear ;)

Politics junkie:

hey! :O I thought U died! :P

Kevhav1:

You thought I died????.....and I thought leaving QnA because I don't see you and others anymore!!!!

Well Orkut is where I spend most of the time these days...

Politics junkie:

Hope its not like FaceBook m I get lost there..

I will give it a try on your approval.. :)

Kevhav1:

I never tried Facebook......But through Orkut I found many once lost friends
But Orkut is a bit different......you create communities....you become the admin....you join community.......and the range of communities are from "I love Marlboro" to "I hate India"....everything.......Well you not as dynamic as any QnA site though......But highly to explore.....The more you dig...the more you get......It got whole of my city in it...I find everyone there from my city........and I believe you shall too....
When you join let me know....I shall give you my real name to search me there.....

Politics junkie:

Thanks m will do " I hate India" channel is gay :P....

Kevhav1:

Actually....that one was formed by someone from Russia...and it's a place for Pakistanis and Indians to fight each other virtually and to send each other to virtual hell ;)

LoL.....LoL.....LoL

Kevhav1:

But the funny thing is once you raise the issue "India and Pakistan should be joined to form a single country"...anywhere.....you get mass support from both the country...

Politics junkie:

Mass Merger Approved:0

Samuel Deva:

it would disintegrate from the heat...

Samuel Deva:

or maybe just bounce around like that mopar suv in the tv ad...

Nano:

Dah! Read the question further.

Samuel Deva:

i'll stand pat...

DJ:

It would sink to the point of gravitational focus, where it would be crushed from the pressure exerted by the gravity of the Earth.

Nano:

No I think if the ball gets to the center of the earth there would be zero gravity.

Pollack:

Supposing that the ball won't hit the sides of the tube, and the tube goes exactly right through the gravitational centre, it will fall towards the centre and overshoot. Then it will come back and it would virtually never stop.
Of course it would require some very extraordinary situation for this to actually occur. But seeing your question, and your probable intend, I assumed that this was what you probably meant.
