Where will business opportunities exist in the world on a 5 or ten year timeframe?

You may answer in terms of industry or commerce, regional locations or spoken languages, cynically or humorously... think big. Please. All ideas have merit. Let go.
BILLYKID:

Hey, yer "showin brain".

Aditya:

It's terminal.

ThinkSimple:

Food service. It has been the staple business since cavemen were providing for their clans. I'm in this business, and despite market crashes, encroachment, rising prices, etc., my companies continue to thrive due to diversity (not putting all your egg (mcmuffins) in a single basket) and strong accountability...think about it, if Mr. Caveman came back week after week without food, his clan eventually succombed to deathly disaster. Besides, people in the haste to make a buck have lost their ability to cook for themselves and are nearly totally reliant on something quick and easy. You can live without a car, but not without food.

Aditya:

Do you view our food resources as inexhaustible or in no way at risk? Fresh water getting more scarce, top soil depletion due to overuse of petrochemical fertilizers, factory farms, overgrazing, overfishing, pesticide-resistent insects and dozens of other threats including the potential for food chain collapse.

Unlike your caveman friend, we can move to another planet.

I do not see opportunity in that answer as its business as usual, and that just can't sustain itself.

ThinkSimple:

Food service is that important and vital for just those reasons you mentioned. There are many more aspects that go into food service than the dollar menu burger that gets dropped into your bag at Wendy's. Those wise career-minded people will create avenues for solutions to those predicaments, and thus, the cycle will continue. I wasn't born it the food business, I started as a specialist in nuclear sciences.
It will be business as usual for those folks who are the ultimate drive-thru consumer. For the rest of us, it will continue to be a dynamic, ever-challenging pursuit.

Aditya:

Sorry, I meant to say CAN'T move to another planet.

SOunds like it's time for a Soylent Green product, eh? I hear you saying there are opportunities, but other than saying "people gotta eat," I'm not seeing where you are going with that idea. What, in real terms, are the opportunities?

ThinkSimple:

Loosen your thinking cap....

Aditya:

Forgive my cynicism, but I suspected you'd not have an answer.

Alabama:

Most legitimate business will be operated in other countries as the US Government takes over all the business in this country. Free enterprise will be gone from America. Thanks to your current senators and representatives, president, and president-elect and their bailouts.

Aditya:

And you're still here? You've certainly provided the cynical answer of the day.

Alabama:

Just reporting the facts. I hope people like you will wake up before it is too late.

Aditya:

I agree that we need some changes, but your repsonse is just rather extreme and lacking in details, so if you want people to "wake up," consider providing some.

Pegalomania The Artsqueen:

Cream always rises to the top. Creativity will play a role in the new businesses that are successful.

Aditya:

No doubt. Feeling creative, Ms P?

BILLYKID:

Hey Michael, ya got sumpin on yer head, dude.

Aditya:

It's my thinking cap.
