The Oracle

Related to my other gasoline price question: (The Oracle is passing gas today..lol)...if gas should

hit, let's say what the minimum hourly wage is, or even worse, 7, 8 ..EGADS, $10 bucks a gallon, will we finally just have had it? Will we re-colonize the Mideast or just go in there and take the damn stuff?....Would the American people go along with the powers at be and allow and justify and rationalize this?....
Checkthefacts:

I am feeling a definite and painful testicular pressure these days!

.......:

In parts of Europe, that is the going rate for gasoline. And there's a good chance you will see prices heading up if all the various proposals for increased taxes on "big oil" are passed. Those companies won't pay the tax, simply push it downstream to the consumers. And one candidate has a proposal with a huge price tag for an energy savings plan or some vague program that is supposed to save the world and us in turn. Guess who pays for that? Yep. Some states add taxes on taxes at the pump -- good old double taxation to pay for programs that have nothing to do with improved roadways, bridges or mass transit. Those monies vanish into the general fund, a huge black pitch. So listen carefully to what candidates are promising. Those pipe dreams, if they become reality, rarely work as planned. And guess who pays for their failure?

The Oracle:

What then shall we do about all this?

.......:

Be careful whom your vote for. Really get to know their positions... if they will ever take any firm ones! That most likely won't happen until after the primaries. This applies more to those in Congress than the White House in many cases.

Johbee:

I hope we don't wait that long. I'm ready now. It is way out of hand. It keeps getting higher and higher and we just keep paying the prices. Here in Seattle, it's $3.15 to $3.40. I know my husband and I aren't planning any long trips. We just can't afford it. XOXOXO :))

The Oracle:

WHY are they doing this to us?......They already have (OPEC) more many than they will ever need in 10 lifetimes...they OWN something like 15-20% of Wall Street......Do they not understand that if they push us over the cliff they are killing the goose that lays the golden eggs> What's wrong with those people?.....They don't even repay us for the FIRST Gulf War rescue...Why are we putting up with this! The Oracle is mad as hell and I'm not gonna' take it anymore!!

Checkthefacts:

Unfortunately, we Americans seem to be gluttons for punishment and for gas. "We wouldn't just go up and take the damn stuff because the "we" who would have the power are in bed with the oil companies and producers. "Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive." I need investors in a new Kleenex factory I am starting. There are going to be a lot of tears to wipe up.

The Oracle:

Hahahaha...hi magicman my friend. How can we stop this evil- must EVERYTHING wait for the 2nd Coming?

Checkthefacts:

And then, we won't need the gas, and we can collectively turn momentarily from the Beatific Vision and give all the oil people a great big raspberry!

Jesse:

how much are shares, Magic? I don't see changes coming soon

The Oracle:

Oh sheet...you are going to invest in the Kleenex thing too?...OK, I guess I will too.....LOL!

Pete:

I'm very curious how high prices will go before we as Americans actually start to conserve. Gas=independence and we all know we don't give that up too easily.

.......:

Oil means a lot more than just gasoline. It's the basis of many of the products we depend on in our daily lives. I except to see $6 a gallon within two years no matter who wins the election. Congress has big plans and someone has to pay for them. Besides sin taxes, gas is an easy target.

The Oracle:

What can we do then?

.......:

Unfortunately some of the largest oil deposits are in areas that aren't exactly advanced civilizations. And with Red China and India adding huge fleets of cars to the world on a daily basis, the competition for oil is at an all time high. There is no other energy source at this time that does as much as oil, providing so many things that we need in our daily lives. It's a fantasy to think that we can walk away from our need for oil. Hydrogen? Maybe -- but it's twenty years off at best. Solar? Not very efficient but it could take over in many parts of the world for some tasks. Less population growth would help the most IMO. Less demand in turn for all resources.

DrewT:

Our government will not allow us to give up gas.. This country has had several problems with gas price escalation over the last quarter century, and still our government does nothing to get us off the oil standard.
The current administration is/are oil men, Bush Sr. is a member of the Carlyle group, which is very close to the bin laden's and Saudi Arabia. Oil is money and power, no one gives up either easily.

DrewT:

I wish I knew. Voting doesn't work. Trying to elect out the crooks doesn't work. I guess we just hope that we can get lucky and someone will come along that will change the system.. But again I really don't know what we can do.
